The South Belton Cross Country Team traveled to Heritage Park to compete in the Dragon Relays. This was the first meet of the season. There were teams of four that would each run an 800 meter dash, totaling two miles. Top six teams in each division received a medal.
The 7th grade girls were the first to run. Coming in 4th place with a combined time of 15:18 was Avarie Willhoite, Paris Varner, Paisley Vicker, and La'Kenzie Day. They were followed by Amiyah Salas-Shed, Athena Sandoval, Zyndaya Sandoval, and Kamiya Harris with a time of 18:03. Next up was Cierra Alvarado, Madeline Vasquez, Talia Vitaliano, and Emily Howard with a time of 18:44. They were followed by Carina Quinones, Annalea Leos, Olivia Oliver, and Maiya Parker with a time of 20:28. The final South Belton team was Paisley Williams, Evelyn Rosales, Noelle Martinez, and Chloe Vance with a time of 24:14.
The 8th grade girls were next up to run. Leading the way for South was Avery Pope, Lylah Cuellar, Ariyah Schrimsher, and Annabelle Marie with a time 15:27. They were followed by Kellie Gonzalez, Siri Cazalas, Madison Bohannan , and Korianna Putman with a time of 16:26. Next up was Holly Padilla, Hawa Chouchane, Marisol Patrenets, and Lailah Figueroa with a time of 18:37.
The final teams to run were the 8th grade boys. The South Belton boys team of Jensen Vazquez, Nixon Williams, and Kainoah Kiser William Gianetti took first place with a time of 12:49. The second team to run was a combination of seventh and eighth graders. It was made up of Joel Perez-Diaz, Derek Ruiz, Connor Youngblood, and Gerik Gerhard finished 8th with a time of 14:30.
The cross country team will be traveling to Cameron to compete in the Yoe Town Harrier Invitational on Wednesday, September 9th.
