The South Belton Middle School 7th Grade B Team hit the road for its second game of the season and came away with an 18-0 victory over Lamar Middle School. The Tigers put together a strong performance on both sides of the ball.
Harley Higley opened the scoring in the second quarter with a 25-yard quarterback keeper on a key third down. Higley broke through the Lamar defense and fought through multiple tackles on his way to the end zone, giving the Tigers their first touchdown of the game.
Higley came through again in the third quarter on another key third down, using the same quarterback keeper play to score his second touchdown of the game. The play helped the Tigers maintain their momentum and extend their lead.
Drew Bates provided the final big play of the night with a 45-yard touchdown on a jet sweep. The play initially looked like Bates would be stopped almost immediately after receiving the handoff, but he stayed on his feet, broke free from the defense, and raced 45 yards for the touchdown.
The defense was just as important to the victory, playing strong team defense throughout the game and keeping Lamar off the scoreboard. The Tigers' defensive effort secured the shutout and helped complete the 18-0 victory.
Next week, the Tigers will play their first home game of the season when they take on the Midway Panthers.
