South Belton 7A Lady Tigers hosted a strong Lady Mustangs team from Travis Science Academy. Travis started out strong in the first quarter. South was able to pick at their lead in the second quarter, but Travis took a lead into half. South played tough defense in the fourth quarter, holding Travis to only three points. Madelyn Rodriguez and Mia Staley led the team in scoring with four a piece. Selah Morehouse followed with two points.
The South Belton 7B Lady Tigers played the second game of the night. This was a defensive battle, and went back and forth all night. The game opened with both teams only scoring two points in the first quarter. The second quarter was similar to the first. The teams were tied at four going into the half. Travis was able to take a small lead going into the fourth quarter, with a score of 6-8 to end the third. South was able to out score Travis in the fourth quarter, but fell short 8-9. Markayla Allen and Melanie Garcia played incredible defense through out the night. Leading the team in scoring was Natalie Mott. Followed by Isabella Trevino and Ni'Yetta Wimes with two a piece.
South Belton 8B hosted the Lady Mustangs from Travis in the big gym on Thursday night. South came out playing strong defense in the first quarter. Finishing the first quarter with a 4-2 lead. These ladies found their offense and continued playing strong defense in the second quarter. The Lady Tigers took a 11-6 lead into the half. Travis made some adjustments during the half, and made a little run in the third quarter. South was able to hold them off, and took a 15-13 lead into the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter was back and fourth. Unfortunately South was not able to come away with a win, losing 20-22. Crystal Loeza lead the team in scoring with eight points. Followed by Abryela Martinez with five points. Adriana Jaimes, Damaris Alvarado, and Carmen Gayden had two piece, and Catalyna Siprian finished the night with one point.
The final game of the night was between the 8A Lady Tiger and Lady Mustangs. Travis came out fast, and took an early lead, with a score of 11-15 to end the first quarter. South continued running their offense and played strong defense in the second quarter. The Lady Tiger took 22-18 lead in the half. Travis came out strong in the third quarter, and were able to tie the game up 28-28 going into the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter was a defensive battle with the two teams exchanging leads. Travis was able to score a late bucket, and steal the victory 33-34. Natalie Stauffer led the team in scoring with 13 points, followed by Isabella Warner with 11 points. Hannah Martinez finished the night with five points, and Analise Aguilar had two. These Lady Tigers played the best basketball of the season. They continue to grow from game to game.
The South Belton will be traveling to North Belton on Thursday, January 25th. The Lady Tigers will be competing against their cross town rival Lady Broncos. Lets pack Norths gym with Tigers!!!
