South Belton 7A Lady Tigers traveled to Belton High School to take on the Lady Tigers from Belton Middle School. South came out strong in the first quarter on both offense and defense, taking a 7-2 lead into the second. The offense slowed down in the second quarter, but the defense held strong. Holding BMS to zero points in the second quarter, taking a 9-2 lead into the half. The third quarter saw BMS make a run, tying the game 14-14 going into the fourth quarter. Once again, the defense stepped up holding them to zero points in the fourth quarter. South Belton came away with 19-14 victory. Earning them a spot in the district tournament. Amaiyah Cruz played strong defense and had numerous rebounds. Arianny Rodriguez and Abigail Salinas played tough defensive all night. Mia Staley and Delilah Martinez lead the team in scoring with six points a piece. Salinas and Karolyna Martinez contributed three points each.
The second game of the night pitted the 7B Lady Tigers from South Belton and Belton Middle. South came out strong in first quarter, and took an early lead 6-2. This was they would never surrender. The Lady Tigers stayed strong in the second, and took a 12-6 lead into the half. BMS made some adjustments in the the third, but South was able to hold them off. Taking a 16-12 lead into the fourth quarter. The defense stayed strong in the fourth, and came away with 18-16 victory. South improved their record 4-3 on the season. Isabella Trevino had a great game on both sides of the ball. Leading the team in scoring was Ni'Yetta Wimes with six points. Followed by Natalie Mott with four. Melanie Garcia, Trevino, Kimberly Orona, and Olivia Henderson finished the night with two points a piece.
The South Belton Lady Tigers will be back in action on Thursday, February 8th. They will be taking on the Lady Bearcats from Lamar at home. Come out and support these ladies as they finish up the regular season.
