The South Belton 8B Lady Tigers hosted the Lamar Lady Bearcats on Thursday night. The first quarter was a back and forth battle, with South taking an early 6-4 lead. The second quarter was much like the first. Both teams battled back forth and went into halftime tied at 14. The second half started much like the first. Lamar was able to take a 22-23 lead going into the fourth. The fourth quarter was hard fought, and the winner could not be decided. Like the half, the fourth quarter finished tied at 30. The overtime period was a defensive battle, with Lamar coming away with victory 33-34. Leading the team in scoring was Crystal Loeza with ten points. Followed by Carmen Gayden with seven points. Adriana Jaimes and Lorol Emrick each contributed six on the night, and Catalyna Siprian and Mia Gonzalez finished with two points a piece.
The second game was between the South Belton 8A Lady Tigers and the Lady Bearcats from Lamar. The first quarter opened up at a fast pace, with South taking 10-9 lead. These ladies were able to gain an edge in the second quarter, and take a 13-10 lead into the half. The third quarter pace slowed way down, with strong defense by both teams. The Lady Tigers were able to hold the lead into the fourth quarter 27-25. Lamar did not miss their free throws in the fourth, and were able to outscore South 9-7 in the fourth quarter. Sending the game into overtime, tied at 34. Lamar continued their hot free throw shooting, and South came away a little short 37-40. Leading the team in scoring was Isabella Warner with 13 points. Hannah Martinez finished the night with nine. Natalie Stauffer and Genevette Nelson each contributed six points, with Analise Aquilar finishing with three.
The South Belton Lady Tigers will be hosting the Lady Broncos from Lake Belton Middle School on Monday, February 12th. This will be these incredible ladies final home game as South Belton Lady Tigers. Lets pack the stands and cheer them on.
