The South Belton 8B Lady Tigers played their final game at South Belton against their cross town rivals from Lake Belton Middle School. Lake took an early 2-7 lead in the first quarter. South buckled down in the second holding Lake scoreless. Unfortunately these ladies struggled to score. The score remained 2-7 going into the half. South was able to make a run in the the third quarter, cutting the score to 6-10. The Lady Tigers out scored the Lady Broncos 10-7 in the second half, but fell short in the end with a score of 12-14. Adriana Jaimes and Carmen Gayden played strong defense. Lorol Emrick and Abryela Martinez played well in the paint. Catalyna Siprian led the team in scoring with four points. Lidia Bedolla finished the night with three points. Makayla Pryce and Mia Gonzalez contributed two points a piece, and Damaris Alvarado had one point.
The final game of the night was the best game that the 8A Lady Tigers had played all year. South fell behind in the first quarter 6-9, but they turned it up in the second. South scored 16 points in the second quarter, with 12 of those points coming off of threes from Analise Aguilar and Natalie Stauffer. The Lady Tigers took a 22-15 lead into the half. The two teams went back and forth in the third with South holding 30-25 lead into the fourth. Lake made a run in the fourth quarter taking a four point lead with less then a minute to go. South was able to make a couple of key stops and got the score within two. With ten seconds left in the game, Isabella Warner brought the ball up the court and was fouled while shooting a three. She took the line with 4.2 seconds left down by two. The pressure never got to Warner, making all three shots, giving South the lead. South came away with their first win of the year 40-39. Gloria Reyes and Rylee Tyler played well on defense. Jada Gage, Natalie Goulet, and Hannah Martinez were tough in the paint. Leading the team in scoring was Warner with 21 points. Followed by Stauffer with eight. Aguilar finished the night with six points, Leimya Palomares had three points, and Genevette Nelson had two points.
Thank you to everyone that came out and supported this incredible group of young ladies. Their hard work and dedication showed every week. The future looks bright for these athletes and I can not wait to see the amazing things that they are going to accomplish.
